Past Events:

Joint Idaho Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) and Idaho Science Teachers Association (ISTA) Conference:  In the fall of 2009, ISMTC joined these two teachers' organizations to implement two activities of this large conference in Boise:

  • A reception to honor those mathematics and science teachers receiving the national presidential awards.

  • A panel discussion:  Panelists included business and higher education representatives, whose goal was to probe what specific math, science and thinking skills young people need today to be successful in the workforce and/or higher education.

Connecting Business and Mathematics Education Across Idaho Summit:  In the fall of 2008, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), the Micron Foundation, the Idaho State Department of Education and ISMTC co-sponsored this summit to engage business, higher education and K-12 leaders in the Idaho Mathematics Initiative.

Paul Rowland, Dean, College of Education, University of Idaho:  "What the Higher Education Community Sees as the Need for Increased Math Emphasis"

Cindy Johnstone, Math Coordinator, Idaho State Department of Education:  "How the Math Initiative is the Necessary Tool"

Jonathan Brendefur, Associate Professor, Boise State University:  "Improving the Gap into Post Secondary and the Workforce"

 

Idaho Science Academy:  Through a 2007 Idaho  National Laboratory (INL) grant, ISMTC implemented a one-week workshop for  Idaho school teachers that focused on connecting literacy with math and science curriculum.

 

NASA Explorer School Partnership:  From 2006-2007, ISMTC provided support for implementation of the NASA Explorer School Partnership for Sustainability  with Carberry Intermediate School in Emmett, through NASSMC funds.

 

Governor's Summit on Science, Mathematics  and Technology Education:  In 2006, ISMTC, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), Hewlett-Packard Company, and URS Washington Division sponsored this summit.  The goal was to provide state and national perspectives on key issues impacting science, mathematics and technology education in Idaho.
